Nancy Batista CaswellLucky are those for whom a career is a calling. They find their passion early, and relish in a lifetime of developing their craft for the enrichment of others.

Nancy’s homage to the treasured memories from her winemaking family’s supper table inspired her professional path and Ceia’s name. Beyond meals of celebration, her family modeled the importance of family supper hospitality, the daily ritual where fresh breads with traditional dishes were lovingly shared. For Nancy as for many of us, her upbringing anchored the indelible influence of her culinary heritage. And this romance is what she hopes you experience at Ceia.

Nancy’s reputation as indefatigable was cemented when calmly lead three ambitious endeavors inside of a brisk 40 days: paired the wines and brought her team  to the James Beard House, returning to relocate her ‘baby’ Ceia

into its current gracious home, only to turn around to open sibling restaurant BRINE. She is innately respected, earning a growing community of champions from local farmers to overseas wineries, and the staff and diners who follow her to support her establishments. And it was her reputation from her colleagues to include border states that earned her the distinction of StarChefs’  2014 ‘Rising Star Restaurateur’ for Coastal New England, covering a four-state region of Maine, New Hampshire, coastal Massachusetts and the Islands, and Rhode Islands. It is recognition that elevates her restaurant company’s visibility and her hometown of Newburyport where she launched her company and opened its two first acclaimed restaurants.

Regulars know that Nancy’s passion and knowledge extends to Ceia’s respected wine program that she personally manages. She is particularly proud of featuring boutique wineries whose quality and Old World traditions touch her heart, and she hopes, yours.

In Ceia, Nancy hopes to have passed forward her family’s torch— the importance of sharing stories told through food and wine, and in making the time to enjoy them with special people.
